Buying the right plus size swimwear for teens can be quite an ordeal, especially when the stores are flooded with tiny bikinis meant for petite girls. A plus size teen should feel completely comfortable and confident in her swimwear to be able to carry it off well. Whether you are basking in the sun or taking a dip in the pool, it is very essential to have a well fitted swimsuit.

While picking up plus size teen swimwear, there are a number of factors to bear in mind. Follow these simple tips and you will find yourself in a stylish swimsuit that flatters your body. Make sure the swimsuit feels comfortable. It should not press tightly against the legs or under the arms. Pick styles with broad, sturdy straps and small cut armholes as they provide more comfort and support. Don’t go for a size too small as it calls for unwanted attention to the bulky contours of the body. The right kind of swimwear should neither be too droopy nor too taut. Try out all possible movements like sitting, walking, stretching, squatting etc. to make sure the swimsuit allows easy flexibility.

A swimsuit’s chest support is an important aspect to be considered by large busted teens. Swimwear with under wires is the safest as they offer a firm grip. The style of the back also determines to a great extent the level of chest support a swimsuit can provide. Swimsuits with a V, X or Y cut are usually more secure than ones with a U cut back.Swimwear which consists of in built control panels and linings are a good choice to go for as they lend support to a full figure.

Choose a swimsuit that features a skirt or shorts rather than a V-cut as it will help in concealing larger thighs and hips. A particular type of swimsuit known as the ‘tankini’ is becoming quite popular with plus size teens. It consists of a tank top and shorts, instead of a skimpy bikini which will only help only in accentuating the curves. Pick the right color, as it can do wonders to highlight your best features. Black is universally accepted as a slimming color. Avoid lighter shades as they become see-through when wet.

You can play around with designs and patterns to get the right swimwear for your body type.If you have heavy hips and thighs go for a dark color at the bottom with a brighter color or pattern at the top. A diagonal pattern works well for large busted women. Be careful if selecting a swimsuit with stripes. Horizontal stripes will widen the body structure and vertical stripes will create an elongating effect. Pick a swimsuit with vertical stripes if you have a short torso or a thick waist. Thin stripes also help in diminishing a large waist.

Plus size swimwear for teens is easily available in a variety of styles in big retail chains and online stores. Many online stores also offer swimwear by designers at discounted rates. Select the right swimsuit which highlights your assets and provides enough support and comfort. And you can cruise along the beach or chill by the pool with great style and confidence.

There’s an article here regarding plus size teen clothing and I wanted to follow up with some more information regarding how the media and fashion industry are approaching the topic of designing clothes for the full-figured teen as well as how the media portrays what they consider to be the ideal look.

This CNN report says that some stores are starting to carry larger sized clothes for teens. Forever 21 is starting to carry sizes XL-2X and Target now has a fashion line called Pure Energy which will carry sizes up to 30.

The article says that while the average size for women is 14, traditionally many designers only create for sizes 10 and under. This goes against the growing trend of obesity in teens which has tripled in the last 20 years.

One interesting comment regarding designing clothes for plus sized teens is that some people feel that it is helping to promote obesity. They seem to be implying that by giving larger teens nicer fashions then that is condoning their obesity. The argument against that notion is teens of all sizes simply want to look good in their clothes.

Another designer who is seeing the potential market for plus sized clothing is Tadashi Shoji. This Wall Street Journal article called Dressing Women Of a Certain Size. Plus sized clothing accounts for about $5 million dollars of Shoji’s $60 million in annual revenue.

He employs a size 18 model for fittings and his plus-size gowns are among the most popular in the industry having been worn by celebrities like Queen Latifah’s who wore a gown designed by Shoji to the American Music Awards. That particular gown was based on a regular sized version.

Fashion Trends For All Body Sizes

For many women, finding the right fashion trends for their body size can be a source of anxiety and frustration. When women were asked what was the one thing they could change about their body, many said that they would actually change more than one thing.

Some women feel they their stomachs are too large; some claim that their cleavage is too ample; other women would love to reduce the size of their derrieres.

The sad truth is that not everyone can afford to get cosmetic surgery and not everyone has the time needed for a disciplined exercise regimen.

So this can lead many women to feeling hopeless about their plus size bodies. There is good news, though! While you may not necessarily be able to alter your body physically, you may be able to modify the way that it looks with fashion.

If you look at the mainstream media, when it comes to fashion there are many individuals who think that fashion trends are only for those who are have model perfect size zero bodies.

Fashion truthfully comes in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and styles, and the fashion trends can be found for individuals of all sizes and shapes.

If you are considered a plus sized individual, you will also find a line of trendy plus size clothing for women designed just for you. The good thing about plus sized fashions is that they are becoming more popular and more readily available. For example with a little research you can find the best skirt styles for plus sized women.

Originally plus sized clothing was designed more for comfort than for an appealing appearance. While many plus size clothing pieces are still designed with comfort in mind, there are a lot more clothing and accessories available that have better fashion sense.

In short, whether you are petite or plus sized you can still dress, look, and feel like a model. Fashion isn’t just for skinny women anymore; it is for women of all different sizes and shapes.
